Police were investigating two shootings early Friday, including one that resulted in death in north Las Vegas.
Officer Alexander Cuevas confirmed that at 4:16 a.m., North Las Vegas police were investigating an alleged crime scene on the 3400 block of Bruce Street near Losee Road and West Cheyenne Avenue
“One person died,” said Cuevas.
Cuevas said the gunfight unfolded on Bruce during a New Year’s Eve party at a small mall.
“Our broadcast received several calls from riflemen – officers came later and discovered an adult male of unknown age who had been beaten at least twice,” said Cuevas. “Medical came and took him to (University Medical Center) where he later succumbed to his injuries.
“Our detectives learned that two people were in an argument over a gun when a third person approached them and fired at least two shots at the victim,” said Cuevas.
Las Vegas police also investigated a crime scene that caused the partial closure of an intersection in northwest Las Vegas.
Police surrounded a red Dodge car outside a Sinclair gas station on Smoke Ranch Road and Jones Boulevard just after 6:30 a.m. Police also tightened the crime scene tape around the gas station and closed all west-facing lanes of Smoke Ranch Road while investigating.
Las Vegas police chief David Gordon said officers were called to the gas station at 5:56 am because “an adult female victim (who) had suffered an injury and was being hospitalized for treatment”.
Gordon described the crime as a shooting, but police are still trying to pinpoint exactly how the woman was injured. Gordon later said Friday morning that the victim survived and is expected to be released from hospital sometime on Friday. “
This is a developing story. Check for updates again.
