DOWNTOWN – The Fremont Hotel & Casino is celebrating its 65th anniversary with a range of themed cocktails on Friday May 28th through Monday May 31st. The Fremont opened on May 18, 1956 as one of the first high-rise hotels in Las Vegas. Boyd Gaming took control of the property in 1985 when the company purchased the Fremont and its sister property, the Stardust, which is now Resorts World. The Filament Bar, which takes its name from its signature Edison lightbulbs, is offering six special cocktails to mark the anniversary. The Something Blue combines Tanqueray Gin, Blue Curacao, soda water and a sweet and sour mixture, while the Sazerwhat, a variant of the Sazerac, contains Maker’s Mark Bourbon, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, ginger beer, lemon and bitter spreads. The Old Fashioned jackpot mixes Angels Envy Bourbon, Cointreau Triple Sec Liqueur, orange juice, soda water, cherries and bitters, and Starburst is made from Malibu rum, peach schnapps, apple wrinkles, pineapple juice and strawberry puree. The Thin Mint rounds off the cocktails and offers Frangelico liqueur, Rumple mint-peppermint schnapps, half and half, green crème de menthe and a sweet and sour mixture. The Nacho Libre, a Sauza Tequila-based cocktail, comes with an apple pucker and peach schnapps. [EaterWire]
