Barricade state of affairs in Las Vegas investigated

A domestic dispute caused an armed man to barricade a house in northwest Las Vegas before he was taken into custody early Saturday.

Las Vegas police chief Ken Nogle said at 1:19 a.m., a grown man had an argument with his parents in a residence on the 6500 block of Colossal Cave Avenue near Torrey Pines Drive and Elkhorn Road.

“His parents were scared of him and left the house,” said Nogle. “While they were outside, they heard several gunshots.”

Nogle said it appears the man “fired those rounds into the air” from the backyard.

The police arrived on the spot and contacted the person, but he refused to leave the house.

“SWAT and crisis negotiators are on site,” said Nogle. “Several residential streets in the area are closed and will be closed until this incident is over.”

Police had closed Torrey Pines Drive until just after 10:30 a.m. when police were able to take the suspect into custody. At 11 a.m., Nogle said the person who barricaded suffered minor injuries in the incident. It was not immediately clear how the man was arrested. His name was not published immediately.
