Bike owner dies after being pinned below a automotive in north Las Vegas

A cyclist died Sunday morning after being hit by a car in north Las Vegas.

Police received calls shortly after 9:40 a.m. about a collision near Cheyenne Avenue and Decatur Boulevard, said North Las Vegas police spokesman Alexander Cuevas.

Cuevas said a Kia Rio was going west on Cheyenne toward Decatur when a cyclist riding the sidewalk in the opposite direction hit the road for reasons unknown. The Kia hit the cyclist and caught him under the car, Cuevas said.

People at the scene who witnessed the accident turned the car on its side to release the cyclist, he said.

The cyclist, a 49-year-old man, was taken to the university hospital where he died, Cuevas said.

The driver of the Kia, a 58-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital, police said in a statement on Sunday evening. The police did not report their injuries.

Excessive speed and impairment are not suspected in the event of a crash.
