Ex-husband killed by a woman’s ex-boyfriend in east Las Vegas, police say

A man was shot dead in east Las Vegas on Wednesday after trying to help his ex-wife who had an argument with her ex-boyfriend, police said.

Officers were called to the Sportsman’s Royal Manor Apartments, 5600 Boulder Highway near East Tropicana Avenue, at around 2:45 p.m. after ShotSpotter discovered multiple gunshots in the area, according to Ray Spencer, the Metropolitan Police Department homicide detective.

Police found a man in his late twenties who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died shortly after being rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Spencer said.

Investigators believe a woman took her ex-husband to the apartment complex to speak to her ex-boyfriend who lived there because the woman was in a constant dispute with her ex-boyfriend over property.

At his apartment, her ex-boyfriend pulled out a knife during the argument and cut the woman and her ex-husband before the two ran out, Spencer said.

“At this point in the investigation, it is clear that if the suspect comes out of the apartment, shoots multiple times, beats and kills the deceased, the victim will flee,” said Spencer.

The woman was rushed to hospital for injuries sustained by the knife, but was released, Spencer said.

The ex-boyfriend was arrested at the scene, but police hadn’t named him until Wednesday night.

“We have a lot of people we’re interviewing right now,” Spencer said of witnesses just before 6pm. “It’s still a very active scene.”

The Clark County’s coroner’s office is expected to name the man who was killed after his family was notified.
