The rock ‘n’ roll marathon Series, Which over the Years Has drawn Thousands from runner to The Vegas to the the opportunity to run under the Lights from the Stripes, will No longer lock in it is signature 26.2 miles run when it Shifts to late February Events Next Year.
The next event is planned for February 26-27, 2022, the organizers announced on Tuesday.
The board of directors of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Tuesday approved negotiations for $ 450,000 over a three year period to sponsor the races as part of Las Vegas events.
Two important changes are pending for the races.
The calendar shift from mid-November to late February was due to the growing difficulty of planning runs along the Strip that did not conflict with key venues nearby or on the route, especially games involving the Las Vegas Raiders and the Vegas Golden Knights were involved.
The traditional starting line for the race is near Mandalay Bay, east of Allegiant Stadium. The circuit also passes New York-New York, Park MGM and T-Mobile Arena, home of the Golden Knights. Due to the difficulty of planning the home dates for the Raiders and Knights, race organizers decided to move to February before the annual NASCAR race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The shift would avoid the traffic on match days and offer less competition between sports fans and race participants for overnight stays in hotels.
The other major change: the new iteration of the race doesn’t include a 26.2-mile marathon route, but rather a 13.1-mile half-marathon, plus preliminary 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races.
The traditional rock and roll marathon route in Las Vegas comprised the Strip and streets west of the resort corridor, and in North Las Vegas the entire 26 miles of a marathon. The organizers questioned the participants in the race and found that they preferred the shorter route on the Strip than having to make numerous turns in the dark in the dark.
“We have worked hard over the years to find the best possible 26 miles around the Las Vegas Strip. Despite our best efforts, the marathon routes we have been able to offer have not met the high expectations we have set for ourselves or for ourselves. What our participants deserve, ”said Elizabeth O’Brien, North American executive director for Rock ‘n’ Roll. “We will now continue to focus on doing the half marathon, 10K and 5K courses better than ever.”
Rare night runs
Night-time distance runs are rare, and Ironman Group organizers say runners and hikers will enjoy the iconic sights and sounds of Las Vegas, including the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign, the Bellagio fountains, downtown Las Vegas and the erupting volcano in the Mirage. O’Brien said runners from all over the world have come to experience the night run. A three-day Health & Fitness Expo will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from February 24-26, 2022, where attendees can search for the latest products for running and nutrition trends.
“We are excited to begin this next chapter for the rock and roll event in Las Vegas,” said O’Brien.
“Moving into February will bring our attendees the same amazing experience of the world’s greatest running party, with a few new twists along the way. We really enjoyed our time with the fall event, but it was important to us that our participants had a race date that they could count on and plan. The change to this new season provides that security and allows participants to truly own Vegas for the rock and roll racing weekend. “
Future half marathons are planned for February 26, 2o23 and March 4, 2024.
In November, organizers reached out to Las Vegas Events and the LVCVA to host a full marathon race on April 3rd this year. But the plans went wrong and the race was canceled.
