Man found killed in downtown Las Vegas

Police are investigating a Sunday morning shooting in downtown Las Vegas that resulted in the death of a man.

At around 5 a.m. Sunday, police received a ShotSpotter notification of gunfire near the 3800 block of Royal Crest Street. Officers came and noticed a group of people standing near a car, Lt. Ray Spencer of the Metro Police Department. The driver of the vehicle, identified as a man in his twenties, suffered from a gunshot wound. Police said they believe the driver was shot about 100 meters from where he crashed into other vehicles.

No one was injured in the car accident, and the other vehicles were all parked.

Anna Smith, who lives on the street where the police gathered, said she woke up early that morning to hear what sounded like a gunshot wound in the area. She heard a man and a woman arguing loudly, but wasn’t sure whether the two were related.

There were no witnesses, said Spencer.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will name the man killed once the relatives are notified.
