Match preview: LA Galaxy II vs Las Vegas Lights FC | May 5, 2021

LA Galaxy II remains at Dignity Health Sports Park after opening the regular season of the 2021 USL Championship with a 1-0 loss to Sacramento Republic FC on Friday night. On Wednesday, May 5th at 7:30 p.m. PT, Los Dos will host Las Vegas Lights FC for their second competition of the season.

Los Dos is unbeaten in the last seven competitions against Las Vegas and has recorded four wins and three draws during that time. In their last game, LA Galaxy II drew 2-2 behind goals from Augustine Williams and Jonathan Perez on September 26, 2020 in Nevada. Wednesday night is Lights FC’s opening game in the 2021 USL championship season.

In 2020 Los Dos finished the regular season 8-6-2 with 26 points (4-3-1 at home and 4-3-1 on the road), took second place in Group B and secured a place in the Group USL Championship Playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Head coach Junior Gonzalez holds a 15-12-6 record throughout his tenure as head coach at LA Galaxy II and has taken the team to two consecutive playoff appearances. In the seven years of USL championship competition, Los Dos has qualified for playoffs five times, in addition to a USL Western Conference Championship in 2015.

In the United Soccer League, 31 teams will compete in 496 regular season competitions 28 weeks before the playoffs of the USL Championship 2021 begin in November. The opening weekend begins with a regular season of 32 games for each club in the league, with each team playing four times against their division opponents in both the Eastern and Western conferences – twice at home, twice away.

The regular season ends on Saturday October 30th with 15 competitions that will determine final playoff spots and sowings before the postseason.

LA Galaxy II will compete in the USL Championship Western Conference Pacific Division for the 2021 season with the following clubs: Las Vegas Lights FC, Oakland Roots SC, Orange County SC, Phoenix Rising FC, Sacramento Republic FC, San Diego Loyal SC and Tacoma Defiance .
