The National Finals Rodeo is slated to return to Las Vegas next year, and local authorities want to make sure it actually happens.
Las Vegas Events announced on Saturday that a campaign had been launched to return the hugely popular 2021 event to the Thomas & Mack Center. The campaign is called “There’s ONLY an NFR / There’s ONLY a Vegas”.
The NFR was relocated to Arlington, Texas this year as Nevada placed restrictions on large gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Las Vegas’ contract to host the NFR has been extended to 2025, but local officials, nervous that Texas might try to argue the event all day, sent a team of 12 to the rodeo.
“This campaign is our most aggressive to date,” LVE President Pat Christenson said in a statement. “We missed everything about hosting the Wrangler NFR, which for the first time since 1984 has not been hosted at the legendary Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The Wrangler NFR is at the heart of a festive celebration that brings a great slice of Americana to life – and this campaign captures that spirit as we prepare to return in December 2021. “
LVE uses a four-part campaign to ensure the return of the NFR – a promotional video, a 75-page storybook describing the Las Vegas experience of the event and the future, a video portal called NFR 360 with a wide range of topics, and a social media push .
Current and past NFR champions participate in testimonial videos on NFR 360 known as Vegas Celebrity Moments, as well as several Las Vegas celebrities including Wayne Newton, Brad Garrett, Kurt Busch and Terry Fator. Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and former Mayor Oscar Goodman are pitching too.
