Las Vegas police officers were investigating two Central Valley murders early Monday.
Raymond Spencer said one death occurred on the 500 block on East Sahara Avenue east of Joe W. Brown Drive.
A second murder was reported about 30 minutes later on the 300 block of South Valley View Boulevard near Meadows Mall.
At 2:15 a.m. in the Eastern Sahara, Spencer said an officer was driving near the Maryland Parkway in the Eastern Sahara when he heard gunshots. The police’s shotspotter notification system also warned officers of gunfire in the area.
“This officer did a U-turn and reacted immediately,” said Spencer, adding that a man in his forties at the intersection of Sahara and Van Patten Streets suffered from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
“We don’t have any witnesses for the shooting at this point,” said Spencer.
In the second murder case, Spencer said an employee who worked at a gas station at the intersection of Valley View and Alta Drive heard gunshots outside the store at 3:15 a.m.
“That clerk looked outside and found a deceased man,” Spencer said.
The victim was believed to be in her twenties. His body was found next to a vehicle at the gas pumps.
There were no witnesses for the second shooting, Spencer said.
