A woman was arrested on Saturday following the death of her 4-year-old stepson.
The 29-year-old Patricia Atalig was arrested for open murder and child molestation resulting in death, according to the prison.
Following a report of possible abuse, officers were called to the 1900 block of North Walnut Road around 6:20 p.m. on Friday and found an unresponsive 4-year-old boy, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police Department and Metro shipping logs. The child was taken to the university hospital where it died.
“Doctors examined the victim and found injuries related to abuse,” police said.
Investigators found that Atalig was alone with the child while his father was at work, and the boy “suffered a head injury early that afternoon,” police said.
Atalig was convicted of battery in December 2019 and given a mental health exam, according to Las Vegas Magistrate Court records.
